Would you consider a person you've never (!) met in real life before and only interacted online with your boyfriend/girlfriend?

I'm writing an essay about love in the age of the internet and would like to know what your thoughts are on this topic, maybe along the following questions:

Did you ever have an online relationship? Or do you need to meet the person face-to-face to see them like that? Does physical sexual encounters have to be a part of the relationship to call it one? Or is a sexual encounter through the internet enough for you?

What are your thoughts on this? You can skip uncomfortable questions.

P.S.: Not to be confused with living-apart-together relationships in two different households including long distance relationships, where both parties have met before.

  • Yes, I've had an online relationship before (or I'm currently in one)
  • No, I wouldn't consider it a relationship until I've met the person
  • Other [tell me about your thoughts in the comments!]
